Electrolysis

Electrolysis

This treatment involves using an electric current which moves down a thin wire to affect a chemical change. It is used to treat body hair, blemishes and certain types of skin growth.

ELECTROLYSIS

Electrolysis for Hair Removal

Electrolysis is a good treatment option for treating unwanted white hairs on the face and body.

It is a permanent solution to remove light, fine or red hairs that are otherwise impossible to eliminate with other treatments like laser or IPL because the lack of pigment.

Electrolysis for Milia

Many clients ask us about milia removal. These hardened whiteheads or milk spots are a typically harmless skin condition that sometimes arise because the skin has been reacted and / or been irritated by prolonged exposure to the sun or chemical products.

Electrolysis is one of the most common and effective treatments for the permanent removal of milia.

A fine probe, which feels like a pin prick, is used to send a current into the milia and this breaks down the build up of keratin (fatty tissue). This is reabsorbed into the skin.

Electrolysis for Skin Tags

Removal of skin tags is simple and quick with electrolysis. The procedure consists of cauterising the skin tag with an electrolysis needle.

This allows the electrolysis method to destroy the skin tag growth. This simple procedure typically lasts for five to ten minutes. Discomfort is minimal.

Electrolysis for Vein Removal

A very small,  hot and sterile needle (or probe) is accurately placed on the skin over the thread or spider vein. The current heats up the broken veins and causes them to cauterise (similar to IPL).

This process is called Diathermy. This causes that tiny section of vessel to disappear and the practitioner moves onto the next minute section of vessel.

A number of small vessels can be treated in each session but care will be taken not to over treat an area so sessions are usually limited to 15 minutes per cheek.

Treatment time depends on the specific blemish and skin condition.

Is electrolysis safe?

Electrolysis is very safe. There is a very slight risk of infection from an unsterilised needle or scarring if the electrolysis is not done correctly. However, we have a certified, fully trained and highly-skilled Electrolysis technician who operates in a clinical and sterile setting. Therefore these risks are virtually non existent. You may experience a slight reddening of the skin during or right after treatment.

How many sessions do I need?

You may need several sessions depending on what area is being treated. A consultation is advised so the technician can fully advise.

Will it hurt?

You will feel a sharp sting or temporary warmth as the needle is inserted.
